Grasshopper
Grasshopper: 9/17/09, 5:00pm, Rexburg, ID, f7.7, 1/250, Samsung L830
This picture of the grasshopper was taken on the micro setting of my Samsung L830 camera. The cut-out was made using the quick-selection tool in photoshop. The cut-out was also slightly feathered and a non-directional drop-shadow was added in order to help smooth the edges. The cut-out was placed on a plain, white background.

Good job on the grasshopper. I do really like it. I wonder only on one thing. If you put the grasshopper on a different back ground do you think that you feathered him just a little too much? I don't know if you did but as I was looking at it close up I thought that some problems might arise with a different background.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was, "Wow, that must have been hard!" because the background is so crazy. You did a great job and got a great selection. Well done! My only suggestion would be to feather the edges a little less. It makes his antennae look almost out of focus.
ReplyDeleteI would have to second the other comments on this one. Your cutout looks really nice, but the grasshopper starts to look out of focus around the edges. Otherwise, well done.
ReplyDeleteI really liked how smooth the grasshopper looks - there's no jagged edges or as far as I could tell, any mistakes. It looks good and blowing it up after you cut it out was a nice touch. You could see the detail and the small things you missed before. Was there a particular reason you'd decided on a grasshopper?
